Try this fun science experiment with kids at home. It's great fun, and little scientists will learn about diffusion.
You will need:
Bag of rainbow coloured sweets (i.e. skittles)
How to do it:
Place the sweets around the edge of the plate in a circle
Pour in warm water in the middle of the plate until it covers sweets
Watch and wait as a rainbow appears on the plate, the colours will move towards the middle and create a whirl of colour.
How it works:
Sweets are coated in food colouring and sugar. When you pour water over, the coloured coating dissolves spreading through the water. The colour and sugar dissolve into the water and then diffuse through the water, making it the colour of the candy.
